# Channel configuration

In order to use the Conversations API, you need to ensure conversations are enabled for your channel. This can be done in the channel settings through the UI or programatically by referring to [Update conversations configuration](/api/conversations-api/api-reference/channel-configuration/update-conversations-configuration.md).
