# Targeting contacts with a 'blank' subscription status

For any domains or phone number channels you have installed for sending operational and transactional messages, you can update your channel settings to allow targeting contacts which are not explicitly subscribed i.e. their subscription attribute value is not set or never subscribed or blank

To update this setting, follow these steps:

* Go to **Settings > Connectivity > Channels**
* In the **Channels page**, select platform **WhatsApp** or **Email** or **Push** for which you want to allow sending to blank subscription status. Note that this is not supported for **SMS.**
* From the list of installed channels (applications in case of Push) for the selected platform, find and open the channel you want to enable messaging for blank subscription status.
* Click the **Settings** gear icon on top right.

* Under 'Manage Exclusions', click the toggle to switch it to 'Enabled'.

Enabling the above toggle will no longer filter your recipients based on blank subscription status.

If you want to even allow targeting to any subscription status bypassing suppressions, you can enable this toggle on the same page for any channel:

Note that for Push, you need to open the application > go to Push notifications tab and turn on the toggle

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.bird.com/applications/audience/contacts/how-to/targeting-contacts-with-a-blank-subscription-status.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
