United States SMS Registration
In the USA, it is required to register your SMS use case for compliance with local regulations.
The registration process varies per number type, but the compliance requirements are similar to all: US 10DLC, US short codes and toll-free numbers.
See a comparison between US number types (senders) to assess which one fits your SMS needs best.
Toll-free numbers (TFN) must be registered independent if SMS recipients are based in the US, in Canada or both.
Registered US 10DLCs are also allowed to send SMS to Canadian recipients.
US short codes can only send SMS to US recipients. Canadian short codes can only send SMS to Canadian recipients.
US 10DLC and TFN can be bought and set up via Dashboard. Short code procurement is on demand via Support.
We've collected best practices and examples to help you reduce the chances of decline by the regulators during registration. Please review the following articles before submitting any registration on 10DLC or TFN to ensure smooth processing.
