Install WhatsApp as an Inbox channel

In this guide, you'll learn how to set up WhatsApp as an Inbox Channel.

Make sure you’ve already signed up for the WhatsApp Business API before continuing - you can follow our step-by-step onboarding guide for further details.

Your WhatsApp MessageBird subscription includes one or more WhatsApp Channels. Go to inbox.messagebird.com, tap Settings on the side navigation and select Channels from the sub-navigation. Click WhatsApp for an overview of the channels that are already installed and linked to Inbox. Do you want to add a new WhatsApp channel? Our Support team will take care of installing it for you, simply follow these steps:

Step 1: Choose a phone number and Display Name

Please choose a phone number and Display Name for your new WhatsApp channel (check out Facebook’s Display Name guidelines and our guide on how to pick a number for WhatsApp).

Step 2: Send your request to Support

Send a message to our Support team requesting a new WhatsApp channel linked to Inbox. Don't forget to include the phone number and the Display Name that you would like to use for your new WhatsApp channel.

We’ll send your request to WhatsApp for approval and let you know once it’s approved and your new channel is ready for activation. Our Support team will install your new WhatsApp channel and create an Inbox flow for you.

Step 3: Visit your Inbox channels

And that’s it! 🎉

WhatsApp is now installed as a channel and set up with Inbox. Head back to your Inbox Channels—you’ll see your new WhatsApp channel has been automatically added.

TIP: Once this has been completed, please test your channels to ensure they create conversations/tickets in Inbox. If they aren't, please refer to the article How to connect and disconnect a channel from Inbox.
