How to create and send a SMS campaign
In this guide, we'll show you how to set up and send your first SMS marketing campaign.
What you'll need
An installed SMS channel instance.
An SMS message template.
Step one: Set up your SMS campaign
From the side menu, click Campaigns.
Click Create campaign.
In the 'Name' field, enter a name your campaign.
Select SMS as your campaign type.
[Optional] Add any tags to your campaign.
Click Save and continue.
Step two: Choose your recipients
[Optional] If you want to prevent this campaign from being sent to specific customers, use the Don't send to dropdown to select the lists or segments that you want to exclude.
Click Continue to content.
Step two: Choose your SMS sender and your content
Use the Send from dropdown to choose the SMS account that you want to send your campaign from.
Use the 'Select a template' dropdown to choose the SMS message template that you want to send as your campaign. You'll be able to see a preview of your message.
[Optional] If your message template is localized into more than one language, choose the language that you want to send it in.
If there are variables in your template message, map them in the Template variables section.
Click Continue to preview.
Step four: Preview and test your campaign
Take a look at the preview of your message.
Click the Simulated contact drop down and search and select for a contact that you want to send a test message to.
If the test message recipient has more than one number on their profile, select the number that you want to send to.
Click Send a test message.
Step five: Send or schedule your campaign
Click Schedule or send.
To send your campaign now, select the Send now option, then click Send.
[Optional] Click Schedule to send your campaign at a future date and time.
You've just sent your first SMS campaign! Time to sit back, relax, and watch the results roll in.
FAQs
Do you support alphanumeric SMS numbers?
No, we do not currently support alphanumeric numbers. Check the SMS documentation to see which numbers we do support. The documentation is updated whenever we support a new number type.
Can I manage SMS subscriptions in MessageBird?
Yes, SMS subscriptions can be managed through signup forms and keyword-based opt-outs. Customers who have opted out can be removed from the recipient list to ensure compliance.
