{% hint style="info" %}
Not sure what the difference is between the types of accounts and verification levels? Take a look at our [guide](https://docs.bird.com/applications/channels/channels/supported-channels/whatsapp/concepts/accounts-and-verification-levels) to understand more.

### What is an Official WhatsApp Business Account?

An Official WhatsApp Business Account - sometimes referred to as a Blue Tick - will ensure your WhatsApp account has a blue checkmark badge in its profile and chat thread headers.

WhatsApp maintains strict eligibility and approval processes for Official Business Accounts (OBA) to ensure the blue check badge remains a trusted signal of authenticity. The blue badge provides people with confidence that a business is authentic when reaching out.

An Official WhatsApp Business Account - sometimes referred to as a Blue *Tick* - will ensure your WhatsApp account has a green checkmark badge in its profile and chat thread headers.

### Who Can Apply?

{% hint style="warning" %}
Only a tiny percentage of accounts that apply will be approved. Generally, only well-know brands or entities receive approval.
{% endhint %}

Only businesses and entities that meet one of the below criteria can apply for OBA:

**Government Accounts and Large Advertisers**

* Government accounts and large advertisers with a long relationship with Meta can directly apply for OBA
* Eligible accounts will see the application option in WhatsApp Manager

**Direct Advertisers**

* Businesses with a direct relationship with Meta can reach out to their Meta Point of Contact to apply on their behalf

**Businesses Working with a Partner**

* If you don't see yourself as eligible in the WhatsApp business manager but believe you should be, contact Bird support with reasons why we should apply on your behalf
* This requires you to have a paid plan in place
* As a Solution Provider, Bird can apply for OBA for qualifying businesses

### Prerequisites for All Applications

All businesses must meet these requirements to be eligible:

* Business must comply with the [WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy](https://business.whatsapp.com/policy?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAYnJpZBExU2VGMnBiUjlqNUdFbTNpRAEe0bgmo78cPG81PWnuQDnPWALuKPkmJ3EAnHsy2GykBZUHHaeWoplGtoqh81g_aem_QSXp16oxMTzgHxcUAIjDPA)
* The business represents a notable, well-known, and often searched-for business, brand, or entity
* The business portfolio that owns the number is verified through Business Verification
* The business phone number has two-step verification enabled
* The business phone number's display name is approved

### How to Apply

1. **Verify Your Eligibility**
 * Confirm you meet the eligibility criteria
 * Ensure your business is notable and well-known
2. **Complete Prerequisites**
 * Verify your Meta Business Manager account
 * Enable two-step verification on your WhatsApp Business number
 * Get your display name approved
 * Ensure policy compliance
3. **Submit Application**
 * **Government/Large Advertisers**: Apply directly through WhatsApp Manager under the specific phone number
 * **Direct Advertisers**: Contact your Meta Point of Contact
 * **Partner-Managed**: Contact Bird support with compelling reasons why you qualify (paid plan required)

### Important Considerations

**Approval Reality**

* Only a small percentage of applications are approved
* Generally reserved for well-known brands and entities
* The process is highly selective

**Application Guidelines**

* Apply only as a complete company, not for employees or departments
* No test accounts are approved
* Applications must be for legitimate business use cases

**If Rejected**

* Wait one month before reapplying
* Rejections are common and don't indicate account problems
* Your brand may not be notable enough yet
* Specific rejection reasons are not provided

**Success Tips**

* Ensure strong online presence and brand recognition
* Maintain excellent policy compliance
* Have verifiable business credentials and official domain email
* Provide compelling evidence of your business's notable status when contacting Bird support

The Official WhatsApp Business Account verification is designed for established, notable businesses that users actively search for and recognize.
