Install SMS 10DLC
Once you have completed the steps to buy a US 10DLC number, created an approved brand and campaign, and the number has been activated, you can install this number as a new SMS channel.
To find and install channels, review the channel overview guides here.
Step-by-step installation
A number can only be associated with one SMS channel and one use case at a time.
To install an SMS channel by MessageBird, follow these steps:
On the side panel, click Channels. You'll be taken to the Channels library.
Select SMS by MessageBird.
Click Install SMS.
Under "Select a phone number for this channel", choose a US 10DLC number that you have previously purchased and activated.
Under "Support two-way SMS conversations", switch the toggle to Enabled or Disabled depending on your preference.
Under "Channel name", give your SMS channel a memorable name.
Select an existing use case or select "create a new a use case" to create a new 10DLC campaign.
Create a new use case
If you want to associate your SMS channel and US 10DLC number with a new campaign, select Create a new use case. It is recommended to create separate use cases for each US 10DLC number, as having multiple numbers will have no benefit on throughput.
Consider using the same use case with multiple numbers only in cases where you have a local presence sharing the same use case. For example, if you have multiple agents, franchises, or offices in the same brand vertical but require individual localized numbers per agent/location/office.
Note that each use case can only support up to 49 numbers, except for a limited number of exceptional cases. If you have a special use case that requires more than 49 numbers linked to the same use case, it will require post-registration approval by mobile operators. T-Mobile charges US$5000 per request for evaluation, although this cost is currently waived.
Use an existing use case
The list of use cases are linked to the 10DLC campaigns that you have created and will be created automatically when the related 10DLC campaign is created.
If you want to associate your SMS channel and US 10DLC number with an existing campaign, you can select an existing use case from the dropdown list.
Note that associating multiple SMS channels with the same US 10DLC number will have no benefit on throughput. You should only consider selecting the same use case if, for example, you have multiple agents, franchises, or offices in the same brand vertical but require individual localized numbers per agent/location/office.
One use case can be associated with up to 49 SMS channels/US 10DLC numbers, except for a limited number of exceptional cases. If you have a special use case that requires more than 49 numbers linked to the same use case, it will require post-registration approval by mobile operators. T-Mobile charges US$5000 per request for evaluation, although this cost is currently waived (e.g., the special use case for agents and franchises).
Only use cases that are approved will be available to select. Before you complete the channel installation, you can review the details you have previously submitted for this use case.
