# North-America toll free verification

{% hint style="danger" %}
From January 31, 2024, all messages sent through pending verification U.S. or Canadian toll-free numbers will be blocked.

**You must** [**complete number verification**](#how-do-i-complete-verification) **before January 31, 2024**.
{% endhint %}

## Mandatory compliance verification

As of January 31, 2024, new compliance regulations for toll-free numbers will be enforced. These regulations are designed to help the industry combat spam, and provide a better experience for all users.

They will also help to reduce the likelihood of false-positive filtering, and wrongful spam blocks, increasing the overall deliverability of your messages.

### What's changing?

Currently, you and/or your customers can send messages through pending toll-free phone numbers as long as they meet existing industry-wide sending limits.

Now, all toll-free messaging services in the U.S. and Canada must complete a mandatory compliance verification process.

Only fully verified toll-free phone numbers will be eligible to send messages.

Blocked messages will return one of the following errors:

* **Spam reject**: `Error Code 110 EC_MESSAGE_FILTERED.`
* **Toll-free number not verified:**`104 EC_SENDER_UNREGISTERED`.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Blocked messages are still subject to messaging fees.
{% endhint %}

### What do I need to do?

If you have U.S. or Canadian toll-free numbers that are in use and unverified, you will need to complete verification prior to January 31st, 2024 to avoid blockage.

### How do I complete verification?

{% hint style="info" %}
If you have already verified the use cases on all of your toll-free numbers, you do not need to take any action.
{% endhint %}

To avoid interruptions in your services, submit your unverified toll-free phone numbers for verification by following these steps:

1. [Create a support ticket](https://support.messagebird.com/support-center/inbox-request/new?ticket_form_id=1900000387213).
2. Select US TFN Verification Request from the drop-down.
3. Complete the form.
4. Click **Submit** to submit your ticket.

We will keep you posted about the progress of your verification(s).

Once fully verified, these numbers can be used for SMS & MMS messaging.
