# How to change the default payment method

Do you already have a default payment method set up in your MessageBird account, but would like to replace it with a new one? If you try to remove the default payment method, you'll see this error in your [Financial settings](https://dashboard.messagebird.com/en/finance/settings):

In order to replace your previous default payment method, you need to follow these steps:

1. Add a new payment method
2. Make the new payment method the **default** payment method
3. Remove the old payment method

By following these steps, you can remove the payment method you don't want to use anymore.&#x20;
